Solutions 11: Do you get the picture? Advanced Imaging Tutorial

Okay, I admit that this was the toughest exercise we've encountered all semester. I wanted to see how you handle such a difficult problem: toss up your hands in despair, try to find a solution, what ever. I will try and comment the interesting solution attempts that I come across!

Ane Asrup Sorensen found someone with a JAISimpleViewer that is much easier to use than the ImageDisplay from the tutorial. With that she was able to implement a magnifier functionality, wow!
Robert Kallwies and Sandra Zimmermann started off with a file chooser, fought with the system for hours, and got the slider to work. Yeah!
Yvonne Schreiber and Nicole Krienke are back working on their own project after meditating on Bruce Eckel's comprehensive on-line Java book. They now finally have their applet up and running, it is looking good!
Oliver Thiel decided to skip the PicShop exercise and chose to have an intensive look at networking in David Flanagan's excellent book. He can now make and send email with a Java program! And then he started writing his own browser
Jens Hoppe and Ligia-E. Bolz get their IMI PicShop to work (on a really bizarre picture) and then implement cropping, so they can cut out the wierdness in the picture. And it works!
Marcus Kuhn and Daniel Reiche zoomed the San Francisco picture down to the point where Daniel could see the house he lived in during his internship! Must have been a lot of pixels in that pic!
Diana Lindlahr and Remitus Elad
Sascha Glasemann and Yvonne Rogawski downloaded the new version of the tutorial for at home, and seemed to have the ImageDisplay around, because the Hello World worked great! They used JPEGTileCodecDescriptor to get the picture to display properly. And they got the histogram to work!
Simon Aumeyer and Bruno Rivetti get the scaling slider to work, as well as the histogram and the panner. And then they mumble something about not being programmers...
Daniel Henze and Kristian Rabe got the Threshold to work, even if storing the result didn't work.
Chris Bremer and Ulrike Grosse
Nadine Wickord and Jan-Hendrick Bender also found where Jan lived in SF, seems it was the same house.... They found the exercises really stupid, but found a nice JAIFileBrowser that they got to work after much bother.
Antje Naumburger and Daniel Kless got the slider to work.
